SCA works to protect and preserve the Ag Reserve

Advocacy

We monitor proposed county and state laws and regulations that may impact the Ag Reserve and its resources. We engage elected officials to support our mission.

Agriculture

We support sustainable farming practices including expanding table crop farming in the Ag Reserve.

Community

We convene county residents to learn about agricultural, environmental, and land-use issues.

“Congratulations to SCA on 50 years as stewards of the Agricultural Reserve. Your work to preserve and protect this vital green space is a great service to the well-being of all Montgomery County residents.”

Our Headquarters

Our headquarters at Linden Farm on over 150 acres in Dickerson, Maryland, is home to SCA’s regenerative agriculture pilot program. In partnership with Montgomery County, we manage the farm and several buildings, including a beautifully restored historic Gothic dairy barn.

Linden Farm reflects the history of agriculture in the county. Until World War II, farming was the county’s primary industry. By the 1970s, however, farmland was being bought up and developed at a blazing pace. In 1980, County government forged an agreement that created the Ag Reserve. Since then, the Reserve has stood as an exemplar of agricultural and low-density preservation near a major city, and a bulwark against development. This green space provides immeasurable benefits from feeding communities to mitigating the effects of climate change. Read more about that history here.

The Gothic Barn and another barn on the property are available to rent for public use with certain restrictions. For more information, click the link below or email us
