What: Public Forum sponsored by SCA and Montgomery Countryside Alliance (MCA) to learn about and discuss a zoning proposal by County Council Member Natali Fani-Gonzalez to allow farmers to build structures for overnight lodging. When: Wednesday, December 6, 6:30pm Where: Linden Farm, 20900 Martinsburg Road, Dickerson Who: Ms. Fani-Gonzalez will attend. All are welcome. Space is limited, however, so please RSVP as soon as possible here. Why: Concerns have arisen about the proposal. Among them: Is this a good way to promote agritourism in the Ag Reserve? Why structures and not just camping? Should there be a minimum size farm for overnight stays? Should there be a size limit on the units? How will the proposal affect the costs of farmland? What are the well and septic implications? How would farms with agricultural easements be affected? Does this create a slippery slope towards less farming?
See here for SCA’s web post on the issue. PDF of the meeting flyer attached below to share at will. This would be a big change for the Ag Reserve. We hope to see you there.
